Capturing Compassion: Seahawks Rookies and Staff Give Back at Dignity for Divas
Friday, June 13, 2025, was a day filled with purpose and community spirit as I had the privilege of documenting the Seattle Seahawks’ annual teammate day of service. This year, the rookies and staff members dedicated their time and energy to five different locations across the city, and I was on-site at the remarkable Dignity for Divas Dream Academy.
For those unfamiliar, Dignity for Divas (DfD) is an incredible organization making a tangible difference in the lives of women transitioning from the streets to temporary and/or low-income permanent housing. Their vital programming and services are sustained through the generosity of volunteers, in-kind donations, and strong community and business partnerships. It’s an organization whose impact is deeply felt, providing not just shelter but also support and a pathway to a more stable future.
Witnessing the Seahawks in action outside of the football field was truly inspiring. The energy and enthusiasm they brought to the Dream Academy were infectious. I had my camera in hand, ready to capture the moments as the rookies and staff rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
One of the first activities I documented was the team hanging photos, undoubtedly bringing warmth and personality to the spaces within the Academy. Seeing these athletes carefully place each picture, knowing the impact it would have on the residents, was heartwarming.
Next, I followed the group as they diligently filled the community pantry. Boxes were unpacked, and shelves were stocked with essential goods, ensuring that the women at the Dream Academy have access to the resources they need. The smiles on the faces of both the Seahawks volunteers and the DfD staff were a testament to the power of collective effort.
The highlight for many was the painting of the new “diva wall.” This wasn’t just about adding a splash of color; it was about creating a vibrant and inspiring space for the women. The Seahawks players, brushes in hand, collaborated on the artwork, creating a beautiful mural that will undoubtedly serve as a source of pride and encouragement.
Finally, I captured the team organizing storage areas, a task that might seem mundane but is crucial for the smooth operation of the Academy. Their willingness to tackle any task, big or small, spoke volumes about their commitment to service.
Being on the ground and witnessing this partnership firsthand was truly moving. The dedication of Dignity for Divas and the enthusiastic support of the Seattle Seahawks created a powerful synergy, making a real difference in our community.
